Course Description

 

 

Student Learning Goals

Upon completion of this class, the learner is expected to be able to do the following:

a. Explore current iPad practices to enhance personal and professional practice and student learning through professional readings/blogs/online news.

b. Develop an understanding of the iPad and applications in classrooms and instructional planning.

c. Align pedagogical values with current 21stcentury skills.

d. Develop a plan for one or several iPads used in the classroom.

e. Integrate current iPad apps into the curriculum to scaffold student learning and develop collaborative learning environments.

e. Assemble an iPad app toolbox listing iPad apps, age/grade/curriculum appropriate for your classroom.

f.  Examine apps that have been reviewed and used by teachers and students at your grade level and your curricular area

Teaching Methods

The GPDE programs support active learning strategies to promote research and application-based student engagement. Through best practices and learner-centered instructional strategies, instructors and students participate in collaborative learning activities that are responsive, differentiated, and relevant.

 

 Assessments for the Flexible Credit Option 2 or 3 credits

Two (2) credit option will be expected to complete the following:

1. An analysis and synthesis of current educational research and professional readings to deepen learners’ understanding of the essential course concepts, using the iPad in the classroom and 21st century skills. (edmodo blog) 

2. Formative assessments that document learner’s emerging understanding of the course concepts.(learning logs, self- assessments, mini-lesson, multimedia project and edmodo blog) using CloudOn, dropbox app educreations app and edmodo app.

3. Application-based writing that demonstrates a comprehensive connection between the course’s concepts and the learners’ classrooms. (learning logs, student created app toolbox, mini lesson, edmodo for discussion) using CloudOn, educreations and edmodo apps

4. A comprehensive reflective synthesis a documentation of examples, strategies and techniques that will be integrated in the learners’ classroom. (learning logs and reflective piece at end of course) using CloudOn and dropbox app.

Includes:

  • how the iPad tool will be integrated,
  • why it’s important in the 21st century classroom
  • it’s impact on student achievement
  • class"room" modifications that may be needed.
  • and how you will establish the iPads continued use.

5. A self-assessment to reflect on your learning and application of course content.

 

Three (3) credit option complete all of the above and choose from one of the following:

Write a Comprehensive Technology Integration Plan that reflects the learners’ understanding of and inquiry into the iPad course’s essential concepts in regards to their grade-level and curricular area(s).

Or

Write a School Improvement Plan/Handbook  that will provide the educators in your building the with plan on how your school will handle the ipad movement. You, then will be the expert!

  • How does your school handle the purchasing of apps, books, etc.
  • How to create classroom environments for iPad.
  • Create an app toolbox of reviewed iPad apps that will easily integrated different curricular areas/age/development level.

  • Develop objectives that describe appropriate iPad goals for students/teachers. Who has them, who is getting one, how to begin?

  • Create a list of sample lesson plans that incorporate the iPad.

  • Develop a problem solving and FAQ for professional development and collegial support.

  • Explain the uses iPad has for routine tasks as well as for curriculum development. 

  • Review and refine the iPad Plan so that it adequately reflects the scope and sequence of student goals and tasks.

 

Submit the final documents to your folder inside the class folder in dropbox. 

1. Complete and electronically submit final self-assessment AND reflective synthesis (2 and 3 credit(s))

2. Complete and electronically submit iPad integration plan complete with ALL attachments, rubrics and files.

(3 credits) (Remember, it has to have enough information that another teacher can follow.)

A mostly exceeds expectations on all assignments, shows growth on all three rubric standards

B Some exceeds expectations on all assignments, shows growth on all three rubric standards

C meets expectations only on all assignments – shows some growth

Grading Policies

Grading policies are consistent with university policy as stated in the current Catalog and Student Handbook.  Grading is based solely on the assessment of the student learning objectives.

 

I/Grade (Incomplete)

The grade of “I” (Incomplete) may or may not be given by the instructor at the student’s request when the required work is not completed. The student must submit a written request to the instructor prior to the final class session.
